Finally Home is a small rescue, so we have plenty of opportunities for you to help!
We try to organize a work party to accomplish special projects each month, typically on Saturdays or Sundays.
Projects depend on the crew that attends and the needs at the barn. Some examples:
Spring time work parties are usually focused on spring cleaning, landscaping, repairs from the long winter.
Summer & Fall work parties often focus on fixing, building, making deeper progress in any one area.
We typically take the winters off, no scheduled work parties.
Everyone is welcome to join work parties. It starts with coffee/donuts and lunch is provided.
If you have a group looking to do a day of caring, supporting a local charity - we can work with you to schedule something that fits your needs..
Barn & Property Chores
The barn needs to be cleaned every day and horses can be really dirty! We have endless chores that need to be done daily, weekly, and monthly.
The kinds of chores we do on an average day are:
Filling and cleaning water buckets and turnout troughs. Scrubbing grain bins.
Mucking stalls, run-ins and turnouts.
Dusting and sweeping the barn, the stalls, cleaning off salt licks, wiping down corner feeders, etc.
Tending to the footing, watering down, raking, dragging the arena.
Mending, maintaining, replacing almost everything - from fences, to stall doors, to equipment to tack to light bulbs. You name it, it breaks and needs repair.
Our horses are fed twice a day, every day.
Volunteers for feeding need to be reliable and detail oriented.
The AM shift does not take long, scheduled between 7-9 am, ideally the same time each morning. It involves giving hay to each horse and serving grain to select horses. Having time to fill water buckets would be a plus.
The PM shift is more work because it includes prepping hay and grain for both AM and PM, as well as giving hay and grain to horses in the late afternoon. This requires attention to detail to ensure the right servings are given to the right horse. Hay gets weighed for each horse to ensure we are feeding consistent amounts.
Good at Fundraising?
As a charity, our ability to save and rehabilitate horses is limited by the amount of money we can raise. We are always looking for people who can help us design campaigns, facilitate corporate sponsorships and grants, and help out with fundraising events.
