The heartbreaking part of a rescue comes when we have to say goodbye to one of the horses we've grown to know and love. Our first loss was Rhett, a tall, noble Tennessee Walker. He was a gentle soul and everyone fell in love with him. He was a pleasure to ride with his smooth gait and willing spirit. One day he unexpectedly would not get up in his stall. He had been doing well, but had cushings and was getting older. He had shattered his hip overnight and there was nothing we could do but ease his pain in a humane way. We were devastated.
Since then, we have lost a few and it is never an easy, always breaks our heart to say goodbye.
